Neu-Isenburg, Germany, December 15, 2022 – Official technical partner and tire supplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, global leading tire company Hankook Tire presents the first and the final four races as title sponsor of 2023 Formula E E-Prix in Mexico, Rome and London.
Hankook is not only the official technical partner and tire supplier of Formula E, but also the title sponsor of three very special rounds in 2023. The long-awaited start of the new season is on January 14 2023 and is now officially called the Hankook Mexico City E-Prix. It is here that the Hankook iON Race – the new tire for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship – will make its race debut. In the future, all 22 drivers will line up on the new premium race tire from Hankook. Hankook is also title sponsor of the final four races of Season 9. First up is the double-header in the Italian capital Rome, the Hankook Rome E-Prix from July 15 to 16. This is followed just 14 days later by the season finale in London. After races 15 and 16 at the Hankook London E-Prix, the new champion of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will be crowned.
“We are extremely proud to be title sponsor of three very high-profile rounds of the coming Formula E season. Experience shows that the public watches the season-opener and the finale particularly closely. We are also putting our name to the double-header in Rome, where it is possible that the destination of the title could be decided,” says Sooil Lee, President and CEO of Hankook Tire & Technology.
Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E, added “As new Technical Partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Hankook Tire is hitting the road hard as title sponsor at three of our most iconic race events. Starting in Mexico City, fans will see the Gen3 race car in action for the first time incorporating the pioneering tire technology of Hankook Tire. With high-performance and sustainability central to the production of the latest EV race tires, fans can expect even closer and more dramatic wheel to wheel racing on all of our city center circuits.”
At the same time, 9th season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship gets underway from December 13 to 16 in Valencia, Spain with Hankook Tire as its new and exclusive technical partner and tire supplier.
Regarding the initial impressions from the test in Valencia, Chief Engineer Motorsport, Thomas Baltes said,” We are very happy with the test so far. Particularly as the rain on Tuesday allowed us to see the iON Race perform in wet conditions. We are working closely with the teams and have so far received an awful lot of positive feedback.”
Driver Nico Müller of ABT CUPRA Formula E Team #51 commented, “We had a very valuable test day on Tuesday, as far as the tires are concerned. The conditions varied from dry to slightly damp, right up to very wet. That allowed us to gather very important information for the season and familiarize ourselves with the tires in a wide range of track conditions. It was a positive start and we have a very good feeling going into the season.”
Meanwhile, the latest Press Kit for the new Hankook iON Race tire for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is available to download now in the Hankook Motorsport Media Center (www.hankook-motorsport-media.com). As well as technical information on the race and road tires, it also includes information on the sustainability approach of the new technical partner and tire supplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
